MEDICAL NEWS: The United States government is launching a campaign to reduce the number of people who become infected with HIV. Government officials hope to cut the number of new HIV infections in half by 2005. Officials from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention announced the effort at a meeting in Chicago. The campaign will include intensive prevention programs and services to individuals with HIV, the virus that causes the disease, AIDS. There also will be expanded programs designed to reach all Americans with the virus.
