United Nations Secretary General Kofi Annan has urged countries to give aid for almost 13 million people forced from their homes by floods in Asia. Mr. Annan says the floods are the most severe in many years in India, Bangladesh, Cambodia and Vietnam. He said in the last several weeks floods have killed more than 300 people in the Mekong Delta in Southeastern Asia. Many of the dead were children. More than 700 people have died in the east Indian state of West Bengal. In Bangladesh, at least eight people have died and more than one million people have fled their homes after flooding in several border areas.
